The Duke and Duchess of Sussex held a highly political speech at a music concert in New York on Saturday evening against "ultra-rich pharmaceutical companies" for not sharing the prescriptions for their coronavirus vaccines.
On their last appearance of a three-day tour of the Big Apple, the couple took the stage in Central Park and denounced "misinformation, bureaucracy, lack of transparency and access" around vaccines.
"We are fighting more than just the virus," said the duke. "This is a human rights crisis."
His pleadings were echoed by a passionate Meghan who said, “It is wrong that so much of the vaccine supply has so far only gone to 10 wealthy nations rather than everyone else. It's just not okay. "
In a familiar tone to the fully vaccinated crowd in New York, the Duke, dressed in a suit jacket and open collar shirt, said, “Folks, we have what we need to vaccinate the world.
“But the experts told us: The following is in the way. They said many countries are willing to make vaccines at home, but they are not allowed to because ultra-rich drug companies do not share the recipes for making them.

“These countries have the resources, the skills and the manpower to start production. They are just waiting for the vaccine's intellectual property to be abandoned and vaccine technology to be transferred.
“And by the way, a lot of those vaccines were publicly funded. They are your vaccines. You paid for it. "
The Duchess urged people to think about the expired and discarded doses of vaccine.
"It's like throwing life jackets away when people drown around you," she said.
The Duke ended this by asking the crowd to shout louder to increase vaccine justice, saying, "My wife and I believe that the place where you were born should not dictate your survivability," which with was greeted with great jubilation.

The Global Citizen Live event featured a series of concerts in major cities around the world over a 24 hour period. The movement not only called for equal access to coronavirus vaccines, but also called for an end to global poverty and highlighted the devastating effects of climate change.
Kylie Minogue headlined in London, while Elton John and Ed Sheeran played in Paris. Coldplay and Jennifer Lopez entertained the New York audience while Stevie Wonder took the stage in Los Angeles.
There were also events in Lagos, Mumbai, Rio De Janeiro and Sydney.
Alok Sharma, President of the COP 26 Climate Change Summit in Glasgow, also appeared in New York, inviting the crowd to urge the biggest greenhouse gas emitters and the G20 to make much bolder commitments to reduce emissions.
“We have to protect our precious planet. The window closes quickly, "he said.
On Saturday, the Duke and Duchess, who designed their own de facto post-royal tour despite no longer having an official diplomatic role, met with Amina Mohammed at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The Duchess later declared it a "nice meeting".
The senior tete-a-tete was one of several with politicians during their three-day visit to New York, a trip that raised eyebrows among courtiers and British diplomats.
Critics have questioned what or who they represent, and fans are happy that doors of the highest quality are still open to them.
