Eboni K. Williams makes history.
On Thursday, PEOPLE confirmed that Williams became the first black star on the series to join the cast of The Real Housewives of New York City - and that's a title the media personality proudly wears.
"This franchise has historically not had a black lens and will be for the first time in 13 years," Williams told Essence. "I'm beyond. I'm excited. I'm honored. It is my great hope that my presence on this show will live up to that. Do justice to black women. Do justice to our culture. I can only hope to touch them." " the magic that black women are. "
Williams, 37, is currently the host and executive producer of Revolt Black News. She also has hosting credits on Fox Sports, Fox News Channel, NBA 2K, and more.
"I've just turned 37 and I'm in a place in my life where I'm about to be what family looks like to me?" She said. "How do I define that? If I haven't learned anything else in COVID [times], I've learned that family is the most important thing in the world and that it will be the most important thing in my world in the future. This is new to me."

She continued, "Audiences will take this journey with me when I return to see where the family is and what is historical for me, and I am starting to have a family of my own. This will be exciting. It is a bit scary to go there but I know I have to become the full woman I want to be. "
She will join the returning housewives Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer, Leah McSweeney and Sonja Morgan.
And while Williams admits she's been a fan of the show for a while, she said she plans to meet the women openly.
"One thing I take very seriously is meeting each of these women in a real, authentic capacity - without prejudice [based on] what I've or haven't seen before on TV as a viewer or fan. These women are part of my real life now and part of my real world, and I applaud everything that comes with it. All the highs, all the lows and all the bumps along the way, "she said. "You will see how I develop very real and authentic relationships with each of these women."
Williams' casting news comes after the franchise loses Tinsley Mortimer and Dorinda Medley. 45 year old Mortimer left RHONY mid-season to move to Chicago and be with her fiancé Scott Kluth. And after five years on the show (and a difficult time this season), Medley, 55, announced her plans to leave RHONY in August.
