Elon Musk Hopeful Tesla Can Deliver 500,000 Vehicles By End Of Year, Encourages Employees To 'Make It Happen'
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA), still hopes to deliver a record number of vehicles this year.
What Happened: The EV publication Electrek received an email from Musk to Tesla employees. In it, he encourages them to "do everything possible to achieve this," referring to reaching 500,000 deliveries this year.
"All the critics who said we'd never make it two years ago called our goal of half a million by 2020 'impossible'. The hell with them, we'll do it!" Musk wrote.
The automaker's founder also asks Tesla employees to ensure that enough people are at the "end of the line" to deliver the cars as quickly as possible: "Special help would be welcome at the end of the line to make sure the Cars being built now can be delivered immediately with no further improvements in PDI because there simply isn't enough time for it. "PDI is probably referring to the pre-delivery inspection.
What's next? It's unclear how many vehicles will need to be delivered to hit the 500,000 deliveries milestone, but Musk seems to believe the team can only get this a few days a year.
Investors seem to believe in Tesla as the stock hit new highs after the company's inclusion in the S&P 500 index.
Musk previously asked the team to be careful with investor trust and wrote in an email on Dec. 1, "Investors give us a lot of appreciation for future gains, but if at any point they conclude that this is not the case. " happens, our broth is instantly crushed like a soufflé under a sledgehammer! "
Price action: Tesla shares closed 0.27% lower and closed at $ 660 on Thursday after close of trading.
