Elon Musk Says Other Automakers Are Using Tesla Superchargers
One of the greatest strengths of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) is the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The Tesla Supercharger network has more than 20,000 chargers for electric vehicles worldwide and is growing rapidly. A Tesla owner can travel virtually anywhere in the US and quickly charge their vehicle at a charging station.
CEO Elon Musk has said in the past that the Tesla Supercharger network is open to other electric vehicle manufacturers. However, in order to be able to use the system, other companies would have to invest in expanding the network. To date, no other company is known to use the Supercharger network.
However, according to Musk, compressors will be made available to other electric cars. He didn't mention what other companies are currently working on compressor compatibility.
Benzinga's Take: This is great news for Tesla, electric vehicle owners, and any company that is said to be using the network. Tesla will be given assistance in expanding the compressor and may also make a small profit on the electricity used to power the other company's vehicles. Customers benefit from more charging points, and any business using these chargers can promote fast, convenient charging that is readily available.
