Emmy Rossum Shuts Down Critic Shaming Her for TV Sex Scenes and Nudity

While Emmy Rossum was celebrating Kamala Harris' debate performance on social media, she took time to face an internet troll who shamed her for frequent nude scenes in her film and television work (via Uproxx). Rossum posted on Twitter that she can't wait to buy an "I Speak" shirt, referring to Harris' comeback with Mike Pence during the debate.
Rossum's comment prompted a Twitter user to respond by suggesting that Rossum may be more interested in a shirt that says "I get paid to take my clothes off on TV". During her nearly ten-year existence in the Showtime series "Shameless" Rossum appeared frequently in sex scenes. The actress returned to the troll: “I get paid to tell stories, and life sometimes includes this great thing called sex. Maybe you've never had any so you don't know. "
Rossum played as Fiona Gallagher on "Shameless" for nine seasons and often spoke about how she made it a goal to use nude scenes to bolster character rather than take advantage of them. Rossum once said to EW, "We're just trying to find the honest truth about what a character would do. If the honest truth involves sexuality, if it involves intimacy between two characters, or violence between two characters, whatever it is, as long as it feels real. "
"What I find so interesting about depicting sexuality as part of art is no different from depicting any other part of life to inform art," Rossum also said of her nude scenes. "Sex is a part of life, I hope, and it's interesting that the women can write on the stage and we can show characters. We can explore the intimate parts of them, be it anger or loss or happiness or sexuality."
Next up for Rossum is the title role in the Peacock Limited series "Angelyne", which is currently undated. Rossum plays the actress and model who became famous in 1984 for posting billboards of themselves all over Los Angeles.
