Everything We Know About Katie Thurston’s 'Bachelorette' Season
From Marie Claire
It's been a long, long undergraduate season with Matt James, complete with a load of disappointing and enlightening off-screen dramas. But in the latest news dubbed "the big reset" of the franchise: There will be two Bachelorettes in 2021! One of them will be Mrs. "I brought a vibrator to my meeting with Matt" herself, Katie Thurston, who became a fan favorite because she was sex positive and vocally supported the other attendees. The other Bachelorette in 2021 will be Michelle Young, who made it to the last two before James eliminated her, and who behaved with the utmost class at the "After the Final Rose".
Early spoilers from Reality Steve revealed that Thurston had been picked to star - then actually just kidding, maybe not - and then we finally got the big reveal of two leads during James' Bachelor finals. If having two seasons and two Bachelorettes sounds a little confusing to you, I get it: this is the first time in franchise history that producers have done things like this, and there will be some adjustments over time. I'm ... really excited for these times of the year? Here's what we know about Thurstons so far, and we'll keep this post updated as we know more.
When will the Bachelorette with Thurston premiere?
ABC has confirmed that Katie Thurston's season of The Bachelorette will premiere on June 7, 2021.
Thanks to some spoilers from Reality Steve, we know that filming began in mid-March and that the stars and presenters were already under quarantine.
Who will host Katie Thurston's Bachelorette season?
We also know that Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams will co-host this season while Chris Harrison continues his break from the show.
When asked about viewers who said they wouldn't see the show without Harrison, Thurston replied, "I think they're on the wrong side of the story. It's 2021 ... I support Chris and everything he does, and I think this is the best decision ... I really think this is the big reset. There have been a lot of awkward conversations, but important conversations.
Wait a minute, what happens to Bachelor in Paradise?
Don't worry, after a two-year absence, your hot favorite mess of a show will be back on our screens (it's probably my favorite so I look forward to it). Per Reality Steve we don't have a location yet, but it will be shot in June. Due to the lack of paradise in 2020, there are around 150 (!) Participants to choose from. “How do you do that with 15 to 18 actors? It's going to be very difficult, ”said Rob Mills, general manager of ABC. But they're dying to get the show on our screens, bless it, and favorites might include Ben Smith, Joe Park, and Bennett Jordan from Adams / Crawley's season. If people can be vaccinated, Mills says, the place could be a "bubble" in Mexico, but TBD as well.
And what do we know about Michelle Young's bachelorette season?
The exact timing is likely to be set right now, but Young's Bachelorette season will air in the fall of 2021 (meaning it would likely film in July). So if you keep track of things, the order is: Thurston as Bachelorette, Paradise, then Young as Bachelorette (and then probably The Bachelor, but we're far from that). I like that they don't just put both Bachelorettes in a single season, like Clare Crawley and Tayshia Adams - and after the reactions, Thurston and Young too.

Where is Thurston's Bachelorette Season Film going?
Thanks to some early spoilers from Reality Steve, we know that filming is taking place at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Due to the ongoing COVID quarantine procedures, it is likely a closed set with no travel in which guests will be flown in and quarantined as in previous seasons. The entire cast and crew began quarantine in early March, so filming may have already started.
As for possible dates, the 550 acre resort offers many options. The resort has five restaurants, three pools, a full-service spa, an 18-hole golf course, and tennis courts. Expect plenty of adventure dates where participants can go horse riding, biking, fly fishing, hiking, hot air ballooning, or equestrian yoga.
Who are the Bachelorette Candidates?
ABC announced the 34 entrants for Thurston's season on their Facebook page on March 18, although they have since removed the post. The men are between 26 and 36 years old, an above average age range for the show. A prominent representative of the Bachelor Nation is Andrew Spencer, a 26-year-old man from Waukegan, IL, the cousin of Bachelorette and Paradise alum Clay Spencer. Michael Allio, a 36-year-old from Akron, Ohio, founded a nonprofit in honor of his wife, who died of breast cancer. Another highlight is Bao Wu, a 36-year-old real estate agent based in San Diego, CA.
It is not yet known who will make the first impression, but more details will follow soon as filming may be in progress!
