Ex-Arkansas football coach Bielema sues Razorback Foundation
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Former Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema, now an assistant with the New York Giants, has filed a $ 7 million lawsuit against the Arkansas Razorback Foundation.
The lawsuit filed on Friday says that the foundation that supports the athletics in Arkansas has breached a contractual obligation to pay him about $ 12 million - the amount of the acquisition agreement that Bielema signed in January 2018 after his release .
Marshall Ney, the lawyer for the Razorback Foundation, believes Bielema is the one who owes something. On January 31, 2019, the foundation sent Bielema a letter asking them to return money that they had already paid him in monthly buyout payments.
"What I can say at this point, before I digest the entire document, is that the foundation previously requested Bret Bielema to return the $ 4,555,833.29 paid to him before the foundation completed its multiple essentials Discovered violations of the agreement, "Ney wrote in an email. '' It seems that Bielema has filed a lawsuit so as not to be sued. ''
The 64-page lawsuit states that the Razorback Foundation's unwillingness to pay Bielema is due to the conclusion that he did not go out of his way to find another job to offset the money owed by the school.
Bielema went 68-24 in seven seasons in Wisconsin before going to Arkansas. He finished with a 29-34 brand with the razorbacks and was fired in November 2017.
In July 2018, the New England Patriots hired Bielema as consultant to head coach Bill Belichick. In the 2019 season, he became Patriots Defensive Line Coach. In January, the New York Giants and new head coach Joe Judge Bielema hired as external linebacker trainers and senior assistants.
