Ex-Nebraska coach Bo Pelini's tenure as LSU's defensive coordinator is over after one season

Bo Pelini will not return as LSU's defensive coordinator for a second season.
LSU announced on Monday evening that it had "agreed to part ways with the former Nebraska coach." However, it is worth asking how each other made this decision, how terrible the LSU defense was in 2020.
Pelini, a former LSU assistant, returned to the school to replace Dave Aranda after Aranda was hired as the head coach at Baylor. While the LSU national team, which won the title in 2019, lost a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, the regression under Pelini was staggering.

The LSU allowed 35 points per game
The LSU gave up 35 points per game in Pelini's only season with the team. And that seems kind of low. The Tigers allowed 44 points to open the season in loss to Mississippi State and gave up 45 to Missouri two weeks later. The LSU allowed at least 40 points in five of its ten games in 2020. That average was bolstered by allowing seven points for Vanderbilt.
"While this year has been challenging in many ways, I am grateful for the decision to return to LSU - a place I love with many wonderful memories," Pelini said in a statement from LSU With [Ed Orgeron] and the discussion about For the future of the program, we have mutually decided that it is best if we break up, "said Pelini." I wish LSU, coach O and the players, whom I have loved to coach and get to know this year, only success. I was proud of how hard our team was on the track, how our young people rose and developed. Overall, we were on the way. "
2020 marked Pelini's first season at the highest level in college football since he was fired after the 2014 Nebraska season. Pelini was the head coach at Youngstown State for five years before joining LSU.
Pelini was 67-27 in his time in Nebraska from 2008 to 2014 and his teams went 39-17 in conference play. Those are both odds that Nebraska fans would love to see their team earn. Nebraska has won nine games in a season only once since Pelini was fired. That came in 2016 under coach Mike Riley, and it's also the only winning season the Huskers had in the post-Pelini era.
LSU ended the season after beating Ole Miss on Saturday. The Tigers won't play in a bowl game because of a self-imposed bowl ban for NCAA violations.
