Experts Say TikTok's Viral Weight Loss Dance Is Dangerous

The TikTok weight loss dance is going viral, but it is actually extremely dangerous. Chances are you (or someone you know) have watched the strange weight loss made famous by user Janny14906. The stomach workout has garnered millions of likes and is following because it is promised to be the perfect abs routine.
But here's the problem: experts warn that the exercise won't give you a six pack abs. Instead, it has a negative impact on your body and mental health. "Janny claims in her videos that the exercise will" reduce the stomach, "but it's a myth that you can control fat loss from a specific part of the body," personal trainer Sohee Lee told Insider. "Specific exercises don't give you a flat stomach."
Doing an exercise to give you a certain aesthetic is not healthy if you ignore diet, sleep, drinking water, and all the other factors that contribute to your health.
Sohee continues, "This person is promoting this exercise as what to do if you want to get thin. They also have other posts where they say several times," Exercise for an hour a day and eat what you want "Which of course is completely wrong and that kind of advice is exactly what gets people in big trouble when they run, then eat their faces off and end up gaining a lot of weight."
If you want to focus on fitness, it is important to do it in a safe manner. According to the Mayo Clinic, strengthening your core is a great way to improve balance and stability. Focus on side boards, crunches, and hollow body handles. Weight loss goals aside, exercising is a way of showing self-care.
Şirin Atçeken is a psychologist and works for the health consultancy WeCure. She warns of the psychological dangers of dieting. "We're constantly bombarded with ads selling us unrealistic expectations, 'quick fixes' and easy ways out," she tells Insider. "At a time when we publish fake news, it can be pretty amazing that certain content even meets advertising standards. Unfortunately, the more people get involved, the greater the reach."
The most important thing is to stay away from diets or viral exercises that promise quick results. Make sure you do your research before trying TikTok health and fitness tips.
