F1 News: Biometric underwear to measure drivers' vitals gets FIA homologation

Biometric underwear receives FIA homologation
Marelli and OMP Racing have received FIA homologation for a fire retardant undershirt that has an integrated system for measuring a rider's vital signs.
Known as VISM or Vital Signs Monitor, it is the result of a joint project between the two companies.
This is the final step in a step for racing apparel manufacturers to measure biometric data that started with gloves.
The idea is to measure the vital signs in real time so that a driver team can monitor stress and fatigue using sensors that measure heart rate and breathing.
Manufacturers say the shirt has three main uses; Performance monitoring, data acquisition for training and safety functions thanks to the constant monitoring of important parameters in all the different situations that occur during the race.

"It interfaces directly with a racing car’s data acquisition and telemetry systems and includes comprehensive protection of sensitive data so that the user has full control over how it is used. We believe that this experience is an important step forward." the development of safety systems and active driver aids also for passenger cars. "
"Working with Marelli is this type of teamwork that blesses you the moment you choose to pick up the phone and propose the project," added Paolo Delprato, CEO of OMP Racing. "It is a mutual enrichment and has created a great device that combines security and performance."
