Family denied boarding, told they were on no-go list during layover at Charlotte airport

A family of six traveling through Charlotte Douglas International Airport got a nasty surprise this weekend when a gate worker kicked them off a flight and then told them they were banned from flying American Airlines.
The Meyer family told Channel 9 it took them 36 hours to return to Denver from the Virgin Islands but they were traumatized after the experience during a stopover in Charlotte.
A recording shows an American Airlines gate agent in Charlotte telling the family that they cannot fly on the airline.
"You won't be able to fly American Airlines, so you have to go through security," the gate agent said.

The Meyers were among the many to experience delayed flights and canceled flights over the past weekend. The family of six had to book a series of connecting flights to get home because their daughter's epilepsy medication was about to run out.
One of those stays brought the Meyers to Charlotte. A gate agent said two of her carry-on bags were oversized and needed to be checked - after a quick exchange to make sure she had her daughter's medication, Laney Meyer was called back to the gate to swipe her boarding pass. Afterwards, she said her daughter was on the jetway and cried over being on four flights. At that moment, the gate agent came down the boarding bridge and threw her off the plane.
"She said you just got off my plane, I said I didn't say anything, my daughter said I just said something to my mom. She said then you're all gone... you're getting kicked off my plane, get out of here, get off the passenger boarding bridge, you're off the plane," Laney told Channel 9.

Meyer says they were told they were on a no-go list and couldn't fly home. An American Airlines representative at the airport eventually contacted the family and apologized; The family was then rebooked on later flights.
Meyer says she believes the hundreds of delays over the past weekend may have been a factor in how they were treated by the gate agent.
