FirstEnergy to Invest $324M for Electric Line Maintenance

FirstEnergy Corporation FE announced the current status of annual maintenance work on electrical transmission and distribution lines. The company will invest $ 324.3 million this year in the service areas of its 10 subsidiaries to cut down trees and remove dead trees and branches to reduce the possibility of tree breakdown.

Every year, the company employs tree entrepreneurs who work year round to ensure proper vegetation management in FirstEnergy electrical lines of more than 35,000 km. Proper administration increases the reliability of the company's services. By mid-June, the contractors had already serviced more than 21,000 km of routes, and the remaining work will be completed in the second half of the year.

Maintenance is essential

The novel outbreak of corona viruses and orders for staying at home undoubtedly had a positive effect on FirstEnergy's housing burden. Almost 65% of the company's sales revenue comes from private customers. Therefore, regular maintenance is very important to ensure an uninterruptible power supply for nearly 6 million customers served in different states.

Utilities rely on infrastructure maintenance around the clock to delay the possibility of outages. New and advanced technologies are used to maintain the power lines. NextEra Energy's NEE Florida Power & Light uses drones to inspect power lines to help with maintenance.

For the maintenance of wind turbines and the thermographic inspection of solar parks on a supply scale, drones play a very important role in reducing the time and costs for the inspection, which allows the energy suppliers to keep prices down for customers in a way.

Utilities play a vital role

Utilities in the United States tacitly played a vital role in supplying electricity, natural gas, and water to millions of customers across the country as the novel corona virus spread at an alarming rate. With millions of Americans staying at home, utilities ensured 24/7 supplies, even if customers delayed or failed to pay their service fees.

Utilities such as American Water Works AWK and Dominion Energy D have already decided to continue providing water, sewage, and electricity services to help consumers in financial need.
