Five must-play games for your new PS5

It's that particular time of year when the air is fresh, the Christmas spirit is overwhelming, and the only thing that sounds appealing is curling up on the couch with a large blanket and a brand new video game console. Fortunately, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 launched just over a month ago. Both are welcome upgrades in the living room and offer more power, larger game worlds and more seamless gameplay than the previous generation.
The PS5 in particular has a number of startup games that are well worth your time. Here we've rounded up five of the best titles currently available on PS5, just in time for your couch-based vacation plans.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5.
If you're only playing one game on PS5, make sure it's Miles Morales. Not only does this game continue the storyline of one of the top PS4 titles, Spider-Man, but it's a brilliant display of the raw power of the PS5. Miles Morales is buttery smooth from code to mechanics: it offers a large, realistic, and densely populated version of Harlem with zero loading screens, great ray tracing, and fantastic acting.
Flying Spider-Man through town feels better than flying. The developers at Insomniac Games have perfected the art of web slinging, and Miles responds wonderfully to every pull of the DualSense controller. Miles Morales is a real treat for PS5.
Bugsnax is the breakout indie hit on the PS5, and that couldn't have happened to a more adorable game. Hailed from Octodad's Young Horses studio, Bugsnax takes place on bright, cartoonish Snaktooth Island, where delicious, hybrid bug-food creatures roam the wild. Your job is to investigate the island, catch Bugsnax, and find your missing explorer friend, but the game is really about more. Through brilliant voice acting and charming dialogue, Bugsnax tells an elegant story of community and diversity, creating a world that feels as lively as it is ridiculous. This game is for kids, adults, and everyone in between.
Demon souls
Demon souls
Even if you previously beat Demon's Souls on PS3, the PS5 remake is well worth another trip through Boletaria. Not only does it look great on the new hardware, but Bluepoint's developers have also updated some of its systems and added some new content, including a mysterious door and ceramic coins that weren't there in the original.
Demon’s Souls has kept players busy since the day the PS5 launched, slowly unraveling its secrets and claiming thousands of hours of playtime from dedicated fans. It turns out there's more to this game than punishment.
Astros playroom
Astros playroom
This is less of a suggestion than a heartfelt request. Play Astro's game room. It's preinstalled on the PS5, and at first glance it might seem like a bunch of branded demo games for babies - but the truth is, it's a delightful rundown of everything the new hardware has to offer. Cute and sweet, Astro's playroom serves as a comprehensive introduction to the PS5 as a whole.
Astro's Playroom is particularly adept at demonstrating the new features of the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback system of the gamepad clearly reacts to different screen textures and actions, the built-in loudspeaker emits only slight noises, and the voltage in the triggers can change during operation, which opens up a new world of pressure-sensitive mechanics.
If you have a PS5, you already own Astro's Playroom. Try it. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised.
Devil May Cry 5 special edition
Devil May Cry 5 special edition
Devil May Cry 5 is already a fantastic demonic action game, but the Special Edition for PS5 proves that Dante only gets better with age. Well, Dante and his twin brother Virgil, who is fully playable in the latest version. The Special Edition offers an option to cut through the campaign as Virgil with a completely different moveset than Dante. The result is exciting.
Not to mention, the game performs superbly even on PS5, with lightning-fast loading times and additional ray tracing at 4K and 30fps or no ray tracing at 4K and 60fps. The Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition also offers new but familiar game modes for fans who want to perfect this S rank.
