Former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski credited with $13.7M in compensation for 2020 calendar year
Mike Krzyzewski was credited with nearly $13.7 million in total compensation for 2020, his penultimate full calendar year as Duke's men's basketball coach, the university's new federal tax returns show.
The document, provided by the school in response to a USA TODAY Sports request, shows Krzyzewski with nearly $3.3 million in base salary, $2 million in bonus payments and just over $7.2 million in dollars in other reportable compensation.
The total also includes nearly $1.3 million reported as deferred compensation for prior year returns, meaning his net compensation for the year was approximately $12.4 million.
That amount is the highest annual compensation for a non-buyout college athletic coach since USA TODAY Sports began tracking coach salaries in 2006. Alabama football coach Nick Saban was paid $11.1 million in 2017, an amount that included a $4 million signing bonus; This season, Saban added $500,000 in incentive bonuses to that total.
Krzyzewski retired after last season as the all-time leader in college basketball in wins and with five NCAA championships.
