Former producer and Snoop Dogg collaborator Weldon Angelos received an apology from President Donald Trump after being sentenced to 55 years in prison.
Angelos was initially arrested for selling $ 350 worth of weed to an undercover officer using a hidden gun. In 2004 he was sentenced to 55 years in prison without parole. He was one of the 15 people who Trump also pardoned last Tuesday. Angelos went to Instagram to share how happy he was to be newly freed.
"It feels great to have been fully pardoned by the President of the United States," he wrote in the headline. "Now it is time for more pardons and commutations."
He also shared the official document proving that Trump pardoned him.
Angelos was the executive producer on Snoop Dogg's We From the LBC soundtrack, which was discontinued in 2002. He was the target of a stabbing operation around the same time that law enforcement tried to crack him and other hip-hop and hip-hop figures on Bust them for drug / gun possession. The police would later search Angelo's house and find more weapons. After reportedly turning down a 15-year plea deal, he was eventually convicted on 13 charges, including drug, firearms and money laundering charges. The compulsory conviction earned him a 55-year prison term before he was pardoned.
"The verdict was unfair, impolite and even irrational ... because his appeals are exhausted, the only solution for Angelos is to commutate the president," wrote Judge Paul Cassell, who oversaw the case, to President Obama in 2016 to commute the verdict hard sentence. "I urge you to quickly convert his sentence."
President Obama would eventually overturn Angelos' verdict the same year he was released.
