A former Los Angeles County Sheriff's MP who led and staged a $ 2 million armed robbery was sentenced to seven years in prison on Monday, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Marc Antrim, 43, was assigned to the Temple City Sheriff's Station when he orchestrated a fake hold-up on half a ton of marijuana and $ 600,000 in cash from a warehouse in downtown LA in October 2018. He pleaded guilty in March 2019. including wielding a firearm in aid of a drug trafficking crime.
United States District Judge Virginia A. Phillips said the "gravity of the crime cannot be overstated" and it was "tragic," "sounded like a script," and "undermines public confidence (in law enforcement)".
Using a fake search warrant, Antrim flashed his badge to get into the legal marijuana distribution business where the off duty MP and two other MPs - Kevin McBride, 45, and Matthew James Perez, 44 - were three security guards at the camp arrests in a LASD Ford Explorer. Accomplice Daniel Aguilera then showed up in a rental truck so the men could be loaded with marijuana.
The Los Angeles Police Department then showed up and Antrim phoned a fake supervisor so they could leave. A company attorney then called the sheriff's department and delivered security materials. Authorities then found two pounds of marijuana at McBride, along with a loaded Beretta pistol registered with Antrim, law enforcement ammunition, and a flashlight with Antrim's name, according to LA Times court records.
McBride is serving a six-year sentence as several others have been convicted of the system.
