Former Patriot says he crashed car to avoid being cut by Bill Belichick when late to practice

Longtime New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has a reputation for wanting to do things his way, including not being late for anything, no matter what the excuse.
Former Patriots lineman Rich Ohrnberger found himself in an awkward position, knowing he would be late for practice because he overslept.
"I wake up my phone died overnight and I realize it's the birdsong that's waking me up, not my alarm clock," Ohrnberger said on his radio show The Hartman & Rich O Show. I'm frantic I don't even look at the clock, I know I'll be late."

"I'm five minutes before the official delay and have a 15-minute drive ahead of me," he said. "I'm 10 minutes late today. I have this queasy feeling in my stomach, like, 'I'm going to get cut. [Belichick's] won't put me on that football team tomorrow. What can I do?'"
But instead of admitting and fearing the sacking, Ohrnberger, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL draft by the Patriots and played there until 2011, did what any irrational person would do: He picked one small fender bender.
"I see a church car in front of me that's completely dented and there's black smoke coming out of the exhaust and I'm like, 'I'm going to hit this car,'" says Ohrnberger. “It's better pay the insurance than embarrass me by being late to a Patriots team meeting.
So, Ohrnberger went after another vehicle, claiming he "didn't hit it hard," and made sure to get evidence of the accident just in case anyone asked about his delay.
Ohrnberger says he paid the older man in the other vehicle and ended up keeping his job.
