Ga. grandmother who returned bag of cash to KFC loses husband to cancer

A Georgia grandmother who selflessly returned an envelope containing cash she found in her takeout order at Kentucky Friend Chicken has lost her husband to cancer.
JoAnn Oliver made headlines after ordering at a KFC in Jackson County drive-thru earlier this month, only to find a $543.10 envelope in her pocket under her sandwich.

Despite facing a mountain of more than $2 million in medical debt due to her husband's cancer treatments, Oliver returned the money.

"If you don't do the right thing, it will backfire on you," Oliver told Channel 2. "I mean, it wasn't mine. I didn't have to keep it. I will get mine in the future.”

Channel 2's Tom Jones learned on Wednesday that Oliver's husband, Hilbern Oliver, has since died after a battle with cancer and multiple strokes.

Family friends set up GoFundMe to help cover Oliver's medical expenses.

Kentucky Friend Chicken donated $5,430 to GoFundMe and wrote:
“We are so grateful for customers like JoAnn who go above and beyond to do what is right. Your KFC family is thinking of you, Hilbern and family!”
