Gal Gadot Reveals Why Wonder Woman Stopped Wearing Red Lipstick

Even with the slightly distorted crackling of a conference call, the sound of Gal Gadot's soft and evenly tempered voice is wildly calming. It's not what you'd expect from a Class A action star playing one of the most prolific superheroes of all time - but oddly enough, it's Gadot's easy-going, calming demeanor that makes her portrayal of Wonder Woman (aka Diana Prince) so exciting. This also applies to the character's new wave beauty look, which is far toned down than the messy blue and black waves and bold red lipstick comics are used to from the old school.
As the actor tells me, the decision to swap out Wonder Woman's bright makeup for neutral eyes and lips in recent years only adds to the character's undercover quality. "Wonder Woman works in the shadows," says Gadot when I ask what the franchise's new installment, Wonder Woman: 1984, will look like. "She's already Wonder Woman and she's tall. She doesn't go unnoticed - and we thought so too." having a bold lip would just attract more attention. "
When I ask if the character has influenced her attitude towards beauty in the first place, Gadot says she's not entirely sure. "I have a lot of love and respect for the character, but when it comes to my own life, I do what I want," she says. That being said, she and Diana Prince undoubtedly share a love for low-key beauty looks. Your favorite makeup routine is one that gets the job done with a minimal amount of products, time, and effort.

"I applied [foundation], which I mix with lotion, and I just applied it with my fingers," she reveals. "Then I use some eyeliner, a pencil of eyeliner, blush and mascara. I just want to look fresh." Depending on how many virtual meetings she has, Gadot says, this is most of the makeup she wears on a daily basis when operating from home.
If she's in an old-school Wonder Woman vibe, however, there's an addition that Gadot uses to transform her subtle look into something more eye-catching. "I love the Super Red Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick," she muses. "It's creamy and easy to wear, and it's the perfect shade."
Straight out of the superhero's mouth: Wonder Woman loves drugstore lipstick (she also reveals that the shimmery red and pink shade Crushed Rubies was used on a scene in 1984). The character may prefer a neutral look these days, but I think we can all get behind a superhero with a bold lip straight out of the beauty aisle.
