The cutest couple by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood a.k.a. Country music played in a fantastic vacation special on CBS. The duo played classic Christmas music like "Silent Night" and "Santa Baby" which were all so, so good. (Their voices are just plain wow.) But the standout moment on the program was Garth's emotional rendition of "Belleau Wood."
If you've heard it before you know what it's about: The Battle of Belleau Wood, which took place during World War I. Garth tells a fictional story about soldiers on both sides of the battle who drop their weapons for Christmas and join in together in the song. It all gives you goose bumps and you are not alone. Trisha and Garth feel that way too.
When someone asked about Belleau Wood, Trisha immediately said, "Good luck buddy, because this one makes me cry and I never cry."
But Garth did it anyway - in fact, he did more than usual! "We always do a short version of it," he said. "I don't know how long it's been since I played the full version, but if it's not too much for you I would love to play the whole song."
He continued to sing the lovely tune, but like the rest of us, he couldn't do it without getting choked. He had to stop a few times to calm himself down and it was really powerful to see.
"I almost made it, I'm sorry," he said when he was done. He also pulled out the lyrics that really spoke to him and his co-writer Joe Henry. "If you sit there and go, we both hope we can find a better way," he said.
His wife replied, "Thank you for singing this, thank you whoever asked for it."
If you want to see that special moment as well as their full Garth and Trisha Live! Head to CBS for a Christmas concert event where you can stream the whole thing with your TV subscription. (The performance of "Belleau Wood" will begin in approximately 13 minutes.)
