Geely PH targets 300-400 sales monthly for Okavango
Sojitz G Auto Philippines, the youngest distributor of Geely vehicles in the country, could place a big deal on the newly launched Okavango as it seeks the 300 to 400 units sold for the fresh model.
SGAP General Manager for Sales Froilan Dytianquin announced the target during the virtual presser of the Okavango.
The China-based automaker has made its first leap into the D segment since its launch last June with the Geely Okavango - known in China as Hao Yue. The Geely Okavango is the brand's largest SUV to date and a 7-seater SUV that competes against Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero, Isuzu Mu-X and Hyundai Santa Fe, among others.
The same optimism was shared by Geely Holding Group's external director of communications Ashley Sutcliffe, who noted the model's success in China.
Sutcliffe cited that 23,000 vehicles have been delivered in China since it was launched in mid-year. "Hopefully it will reflect the same in the Philippines," he added.
The numbers that Dytianquin shared are also achievable for SGAP, as they expressed a firm belief that the Okavango relies on its key attributes when it comes to technology and comfort.
In addition, the uniqueness of the name is also part of the marketing strategy, which could also help drive better sales. "People will try to look for and even go to dealerships to find out more about the vehicle - just like they did with the Coolray," said the SGAP manager.
Aside from adding the Okavango to the range, which gives vehicle buyers more choice when entering their showrooms, they will expand their visibility as they aggressively expand their dealer network.
SGAP President MIkihisa Takayama announced that there will be 28 branches by the end of 2021. According to Takayama, 14 stores will be ready for the market by March next year, while the next 14 will come in the course of 2021.
The Geely Okavango is a semi-hybrid vehicle. A 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with turbocharger and 48-V electric motor, which can generate 190 hp and 300 Nm of torque, serves as the drive.
