Gun violence hasn’t been a problem in Texas, so why worry about permitless carry?
America for everyone
What a week we've just seen. Opal Lee, a 94-year-old black woman, made national news and front pages for the newspaper. (June 20, "Opal Lee Celebrates June 10th Holiday in Fort Worth") It's starting to look like the real America that I love and love even more.
Thank you, President Joe Biden and Opal Lee, for an exceptional week. Wouldn't it be great if, 100 years from now, people didn't remember Robert E. Lee but Opal Lee?

My decision has solidified
I see Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz supported Susan Wright in the 6th district runoff election in July. Those are two more reasons for me to vote for Jake Ellzey.

No permits, no problems
Texas passed the concealed carry law in 1995 and later allowed open carry. Opponents of both said it would be the Wild West again. It did not happen. You say it again with the adoption of permissionless wearing.
As a licensed gun carrier, I was neither for nor against the new law, but I will keep my license. The main objection is that the new law does not require training. But the domain portion of the course is not a training course; It is an aptitude test that you must pass. If a person has no experience with a firearm, it is recommended that they take a training course first.
The Texas Department of Public Safety will be offering a free online course. Nothing has changed about who is legally allowed to carry a firearm.

Everyone takes up arms?
Maybe it is time the rest of us got guns. Do we need to protect ourselves in the face of the increase in right-wing violence and events such as the January 6th uprising and the continued relaxation of gun laws?
There aren't many other options but to join the crowd and defend America and our democracy from threats like right-wing fascism.

I don't give a damn crap
Did you charge any fees for publishing Champs obituary? (June 20, 3A, "Bidens' older dog, Champ, died at 13") I hope so because it wasn't worth a news room.
- Tom C. Burke, Fort Worth
Keep it with Fort Worth
New Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker seeks to attract young professionals to the city. What about the young professionals and others who are already there?
What's Wrong With Hiring Fort Worthians? What's wrong with hiring Fort Worthian-owned companies to work for the city? What's wrong with borrowing money from Fort Worthians who want to start their own business? We have talent and want to contribute to our city.

Wall Talk ignores the real problems of Texas
There is no excuse for our extreme Texas electrical problems. People died, received outrageous utility bills, and had anxious moments not knowing what to expect next in the February freeze. And now our governor and his cronies want to spend a scandalous amount of our money on an unnecessary border wall. (June 18, 13A, "Abbott Found A Way To Worsen The Texas Border Wall Plan")
The border protection lies with the federal government. Will selfish voting never end?
