Despite previous reports suggesting they want to return to the UK for Christmas, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly staying in California for the holidays this year.
A source close to the couple told Vanity Fair that they "have no plans" to return to the UK this year and are "really enjoying their new life in California and their new home."
The COVID-19 pandemic and its associated travel restrictions are only part of the reason the Sussexes are planning on staying in the US for the holidays. Apparently Harry's strained relationship with this brother, Prince William, is also a factor.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won't appear to be celebrating Christmas with the rest of the royal family this year.
A source close to the couple told Vanity Fair that the Sussexes have no plans to return to the UK for the holidays this year, although previous reports suggested they were hoping to do just that.
"At this stage, they are really enjoying their new California life and new home," the source explained. "There are currently no plans for her to return to the UK for Christmas."
Part of the Sussexes vacation plans, of course, is the COVID-19 pandemic, which has made transatlantic travel complicated at best. However, according to the Vanity Fair source, the pandemic isn't the only reason Harry and Meghan decided not to return to the UK this holiday season. Apparently, Harry's lingering rift with his brother, Prince William, also played a role.
"Let's just say that things are better between Harry and his brother, but not the way they were, and I don't think anyone is ready for a cozy family Christmas now," the source added.
