Here's why Jenna Bush Hager shouted 'Hoda' during her 10,000-foot skydive
Hoda Kotb is not only Jenna Bush Hager's TODAY co-presenter and good friend, she is now also a code word.
On TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on Thursday, Jenna shared why she said "Hoooooddddddaaaaaaa !!!!" when she fell to earth a few hours earlier during her 10,000-foot skydive.
She had admittedly cursed a storm before the jump for fear of the camera, so her instructors had given her a plan to avoid cursing a blue stripe on live TV.
"I had a code word," said Jenna. "I had a secret code word in my head that I was practicing and the guys were really hilarious. The code word was' Hoda '. And the guys were like,' Remember, emphasis on 'there', emphasis on 'there' Don't just go under and yell 'Ho'. "
Jenna also had previous experience with code words on live television when she fell from a great height. She called "Mom!" live on TODAY in 2014 as you plunge 60 meters into a canyon on the Terror Dactyl Ride at Cave of the Winds Mountain Park, Colorado.
On Thursday Jenna let go of Hoda's name at full volume as she started the tandem jump with Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Abeln of the US Army's famous skydiving team, the Golden Knights.

"There were some swear words, but it wasn't when the camera was rolling," Jenna said.
"I didn't hear any," said Abeln with a grin on TODAY.
Jenna's heart pounding in the sky was a tribute to her late grandfather, former President George H.W. Bush, an avid skydiver who celebrated several milestones including his 90th by jumping off an airplane.
It also paid homage to Bush's military history and honored the U.S. Army, which celebrated its 246th birthday on Monday. It landed on the grounds of the National Museum of the United States Army after taking off from Davison Army Airfield in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
“I think I said, 'Why did I say yes to that?' a million times this morning, but in that moment I felt closer to my gamps, who I love so much, and I felt, 'I'm brave,' "Jenna said." I felt brave and I just did it. "
Sgt. Retired 1st Class Mike Elliot observed Jenna from the ground with the perspective that as a member of the Golden Knights she did tandem jumps with her grandfather several times, including Bush's 90th birthday.
"I don't remember screaming so much on the way down," joked Elliot TODAY. “A little quieter than Jenna, but Gampy must have been very proud to see you fall today.
