Here's why the 2021 Ford Bronco isn't available with a folding windshield

The 2021 Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler make motorists feel the wind in their hair, but only the latter gives users the opportunity to feel the insects in their teeth. While the Wrangler's windshield folds flat on the hood, the Bronco is designed to stay upright at all times. Ford explained this decision.
"We looked at this. In the original vehicle, you could do that. But it brings with it some problems. It presents a pretty rare occurrence for the user as you start getting into things like flat windshields, which is a compromise build around pillars "Paul Wraith, the new Bronco's chief engineer, told the Ford Authority.
It sounds like it was structurally possible to give the Bronco a folding roof, but it would have made the SUV more difficult to build, and complexity almost always increases cost. Instead, Wraith said his team found other ways to allow Bronco users to let the great outdoors permeate the booth. In particular, the engineers made the A-pillars as thin as possible without compromising safety, and they incorporated airbags into the horizontal roof racks that Ford calls sport pipes. Moving the mirrors to the base of the windshield can encourage drivers to remove the doors. The available hard top can be removed in individual sections.
"So if you look at the tradeoffs, we think we made the right one. It's very safe, very open and a good experience," said Wraith. Judging by the overwhelming number of pre-orders Ford received in the days following the Bronco's unveiling, we think off-roaders agree with Wraith's assessment.
