Hot Pants Are Back—And Yes, They're Hotter Than Ever
In case you are wondering, no, hotpants are not called "hotpants" just because women look "hot" in them (which, by the way, they certainly do). While the term "hot" was appended to the name of the style in the 1950s due to the shock factor it brought with it, this trend is a trend that women originally broke out in protest at their then-expected dress code. Longer hems and an overall modest aesthetic were the norm at the time, but that didn't prevent women from showing their bodies loudly and proudly with the development of short shorts. We have continued to watch the rise of this trend from the 50s to the 70s and believe it or not in 2020 as they are back and hotter than ever.
This trend will certainly continue, but has also developed considerably. I don't want to attribute the rise of knitted hot pants to the current climate at home, but it's pretty damn practical. Hot pants had a huge impact on the runways in spring / summer 2020 and were designed so differently that we knew that it was only a matter of time before the trend began to bubble in the real world. As already mentioned, fashion girls currently particularly like the knitting styles, but there are also many bespoke and structured versions to combat the loungewear aesthetic.
