How Rams can clinch playoff berth Sunday after Cardinals fail to help L.A. out
There was a possibility that the Los Angeles Rams would have won a playoff spot on Saturday before they even faced the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Cardinals chose not to help LA in order to keep LA's slim chance of missing out on the postseason.
The Cardinals were upset by the 49ers on Saturday afternoon, which prevented the Rams from securing a spot in the playoffs. LA still has the option to secure a place in dance in two different ways.
Here are the two clinch scenarios for the Rams:
Win / Draw against Seattle OR
Bears loss / tie against Jacksonville
The Bears are 8.5 point favorites over the Jaguars today, so they are unlikely to lose this game - especially if James Robinson is out for Jacksonville. Not to mention, the Jags are in the driver's seat for the number 1 in the draft, a point they'd probably rather not lose if they won a meaningless game.
So most likely it comes down to the Rams beating the Seahawks on the road to complete the season sweep. If they fail, they'll either have to beat the Cardinals in week 17 or let the Bears lose to the Packers to secure a place in the playoffs.
Make no mistake though: The Rams would rather get this deal out of the way today and have a chance to secure the NFC West title next week. A loss to Seattle gives the Seahawks the division crown.
