Hugh Freeze wasted no time in naming the first member of his staff.
It was made official Tuesday that Cadillac Williams, Auburn's interim coach for the final four games of the regular season, will remain on the staff as assistant head coach in addition to his role as running backs coach.
During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, newly appointed Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said the decision to keep Williams was a no-brainer.

"It became easy for me when I had my meetings with John (Cohen) and Rich (McGlynn) and the other guys ... I had already done my homework on people we had in common, friends, I knew this was my first." Priority was "I have to have Cadillac on my side to advance the culture of Auburn football," Freeze said.
Freeze said his schedule at Liberty and Auburn's schedule were perfectly aligned to give him the opportunity to watch most of the Tigers' final games of the regular season. He says he admired the way Williams led the team through a difficult time.
"What I experienced was, in my opinion, one of the most outstanding leadership experiences I have ever experienced in college football," Freeze said. "In this profession, I know how hard it is to finish the season even if you're doing well, even if you're bowl-qualified. Not to mention ending a season with enthusiasm and passion and desire and excitement and having fun like I experienced turning on the Auburn football games. To me it was a direct reflection of Cadillac, his leadership and how he managed the people, and I thought these young men were a brilliant job.”
Prior to Freeze's launch, Williams confirmed the news by sharing a "thank you note" via Twitter, crediting Jesus, Dr. Christopher Roberts, Rich McGlynn and John Cohen showed his gratitude.
In his note, Williams said he had a desire to remain in Auburn. After meeting Freeze, Williams says he shares Freeze's values and vision for the football program and is excited to bring Auburn back to its winning tradition.
Williams is the first official hire Freeze has made since becoming head coach. Freeze said during his press conference that many names have approached him to join his staff.
