Hummer H2 burns to a crisp; now the owner won't need the hoarded gas

Here's your daily Autoblog public service announcement: don't hoard gas, but if you do, don't let 20 gallons of it catch fire in your 2004 Hummer H2. As one Florida owner learned the hard way, you could end up with a very crispy lobster.
According to CBS subsidiary WABI, fire rescue was called to the scene yesterday morning in Citrus County Fire Rescue at a Texaco station in Homosassa, Florida. The Hummer owner had just filled four five-gallon canisters with fuel and placed them in the back of the vehicle.
It is not clear what started the fire, but when the emergency services arrived, the SUV was already, as the children say, on fire. The vehicle was a total loss. Photos show that it is completely scorched with the hood and windows missing. A fender sat lonely on the ground nearby.
An injury was reported, but the person refused to be taken to the hospital. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection was hired to do the fuel cleaning.
Due to a lack of Colonial Pipeline, one of the largest refined oil pipelines on the east coast, gasoline was driven on the east coast. Due to lax cybersecurity measures, the company was the victim of a ransomware attack that shut down over the weekend. Russia-based hackers have requested a $ 5 million payout to free up control of Colonial Pipeline's computer systems. Colonial paid and has since resumed operations.
Between fires, fighting, and admonitions from politicians not to hoard - probably one of the few things Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and President Joe Biden agree on - this is probably good advice to follow. In many affected areas, gas stations should be supplied again within a few days.
