‘I Don’t Like Really Talking About It Because It Makes Me Emotional’: Kandi Burruss Reveals Hurtful Comment She Received After Deciding to Use a Surrogate

Kandi Burruss opens up a little about motherhood, including a personal experience regarding a comment that proved hurtful as it relates to Burruss ‘decision to use a surrogate mother for the birth of her last child.
On October 21, Burruss opened People's new podcast, Me Becoming A Mom, on the topic of motherhood, where she shared the hurtful comment someone made about her decision to have a child as a surrogate mother. The Real Housewives of Atlanta reality star - stepmother of Kaela Tucker, 25, and mother of Riley Burruss, 19, Ace Tucker, 5, and Blaze Tucker, 1 - welcomed their daughter Blaze through a surrogate mother.

The decision to include a surrogate mother came after Burruss had some difficulties with natural conception. Burruss has said in the past that the decision to use a surrogate mother was not an easy one. When someone questioned this, she said, "It really hurt my feelings."
She shared during the podcast, “I don't really like talking about it because it makes me emotional. I don't think she tried to hurt my feelings. But when she saw it or heard that I was doing it, she just said, 'Aren't you afraid that you won't bond with your baby? ""
Even before her daughter Blaze was born, the 45-year-old had fertility problems. She and her husband, Todd Tucker, discovered she had uterine fibroids and needed an operation to have them removed. She later used in vitro fertilization to get pregnant with her son Ace. When the couple decided to get Blaze three years later, they felt the risk was too high to carry Blaze themselves.
Burruss cleared up the audience and exposed the hurtful remark made about her being able to bond with her child. "She's older, so I think that her initial thought is like someone isn't physically having their baby, that they won't be able to have the same bond as a mother who physically pushed the baby out."
She added, "And I can tell you for sure, if you've ever had any doubts, it is not true."
Some other prominent couples who have used a surrogate mother to welcome their children include Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and Angela Bassett and Courtney Vance.
