There are few pop culture experiences as unnerving as tuning in to a comedy series or movie everyone assures you'll be the funniest thing you've ever seen in your entire life, only to find that it's just not for you. (Equally disconcerting is being the person recommending the comedy masterpiece, only to have your companion stare blankly at the screen and glance at their phone every few seconds.) So there were plenty of responses when Redditor u/CatsAreTheBest2 people asked about it Ask Reddit, "What popular comedy TV show or movie do you find painfully unfunny?" Here are 24 of the supposedly funny movies and TV shows that people just don't "get."
Responses may have been edited for length and/or clarity.
1. "Sex and the City. How Carrie's friends get along with her is beyond me."

2. “Like many of the other comments: The Big Bang Theory. I especially despise it when I tell someone I'm a physicist and their response is, 'Oh, like Sheldon.' To be clear, I'm not mad that the show makes fun of scientists. If anything, I don't think they make fun of scientists enough - nobody talks shit about physicists like physicists do. The show just isn't funny (I object, especially with all the sexism), and being called Sheldon gets old over time."

3. "I loved Full House as a kid, but man, is it hard to get through Fuller House..."

4. "I used to tell my kids about an old show that was hilarious: Get a Life, from the early '90s. I found a VHS, put it in and there's silence. She hasn't aged well.”

5. "Any sitcom with quick one-liners between characters. Two Broke Girls immediately spring to mind.”

6. "Okay, the earlier seasons are good, but we need to have an honest conversation about the later seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants and The Simpsons. only painful. So unhappy."

7. "Every one of the Madea movies. To me it seems like he's just perpetuating a very cruel and outdated cliché and I just cringe when I look at him."

8. "Everyone loves Raymond. It was a staple of my '90s childhood, but I've watched a few episodes recently, and it hasn't aged well. The cross-generational 'I have my wife' jokes, yes."
– Hangover Patater

9. "I passionately detest Will & Grace! The main characters are so self-centered and unsympathetic.

10. "Bob's Burgers. I never laughed once."

11. "Big Mouth makes me cringe at almost every line. It always feels like it's frankly trying too hard to be lewd. And I like racy shows in general...but shit dude it's definitely a one trick pony nothing else speaks for it."
—ZeusTheII

12. "Rick and Morty. I watched an entire season at once. I get the humor, but other than that one day to see what it was about, I never had the itch to watch it again."

13. "Mrs. Brown's Boys. It makes me want to sand my eyes and pour molten lava in my ears.”

14. "Stepbrothers. It came out when I was in high school and all my friends thought it was the funniest movie they've ever seen. That kind of humor is definitely not for me, and having people constantly quoting it made it really easy to get fed up super fast."

15. "I absolutely HATE family feuds. That's because on literally every episode, if a contestant says something even slightly weird or unusual, Steve Harvey will sit with his jaw on the floor and be absolutely stunned that anyone would say such a thing. It might have been funny in the first few episodes, but by episode 977 it's getting damn old."

16. "I've tried so hard with community. ... I really did. The only ones who kept me going were Troy and Abed.”

- The Glenrothes
