Iconic Tom Hanks comedic role was almost played by Robert De Niro
Actress Elizabeth Perkins, who played adult Josh's love interest in the 1988 classic Big, appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Wednesday talking about Robert De Niro, who was originally cast as Tom Hanks made famous.
"Robert De Niro was actually cast as Josh in the movie Big." Perkins revealed Cohen to an astonished person. But she added, “It fell apart because he had a planning conflict, and then they went to see Tom Hanks. It's like a completely different movie in my brain with Robert De Niro. "
De Niro was so close to playing the role that when she auditioned for the role, Perkins auditioned with De Niro. While Hanks gave the character a certain playfulness, Big would have been a very different movie if De Niro had stayed with the role.
“He was more moody. It was more of a - a little more of a horror film. Robert De Niro wanders the streets of New York, ”said Perkins. "What made Tom Hanks do it was so much easier."
When it comes to classic movies, Perkins also revealed one reason why she sometimes wished she had played Kevin's mother in Home Alone, who was ultimately played by Catherine O’Hara.
“I love home alone. Sometimes I wish I had that role because my husband was the cameraman and I probably had met him a few years ago, ”Perkins said. "But Catherine O'Hara is the queen. Everything she does is gold."
See what happens live to Andy Cohen. Will be broadcast from Sunday to Thursday at 10 p.m. on Bravo.
