If Biden and Democrats think Black people will repeat 2020, think again
OPINION: Blacks cannot save a party that is unwilling to use the power that blacks have given them in the first place.
President Joe Biden and the Democrats are in power and control the White House and both houses of Congress thanks to black voters. In the meantime, the Dems are debating among themselves whether to use their power and pass laws to fight oppression and gerrymandering of GOP voters, or to flush everything down the toilet and tell black voters to get themselves - and them Democratic Party - disorganize. out of this mess.
If Biden and his party believe that blacks are marching in the streets, protesting the offices of recalcitrant, racist white lawmakers and being arrested, then they are wrong. And if you think you can disregard black voters with no consequences - again you are wrong.
Black people cannot save a party that is unwilling to use the power that blacks have given them in the first place. This is not the 1960s and we are not going to go through this again.
A national crisis is imminent, and the problems facing not only the Democratic Party but the future of American democracy itself are clear. On the one hand, the Democrats are right to stumble knowing they will lose the election because of these restrictive GOP electoral laws enacted in state legislatures across the country. As Nsé Ufot, CEO of the Stacey Abrams-founded New Georgia Project, said, "If there is no way for us to repeat what happened in November 2020, we will get fed up."

With over 18 states passing voter suppression laws since January, Republicans - who advocate the deceptive notion that Trump lost the election - understand that their unpopular politics and fascist demeanor cannot win if they fail the people discourage voting, direct election theft and terrorist violence. It doesn't matter if the Democrats have the majority of the population if the people can't vote or if the vote is rigged.
The other side of the GOP electoral repression coin is the partisan gerrymandering, which gives Republicans the power to redefine electoral districts at their convenience and to their advantage. Republicans only need to flip five seats to take control of Congress. Just conquering the election card in four states - Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Texas - is enough for Republicans to win back the House of Representatives.
This is because nearly half of Republicans believe that "there will come a time when patriotic Americans must take the law into their own hands," and 55% of Republicans say that "the traditional American way of life is disappearing so quickly" . we may have to use force to save it. ”And it's not that Republicans don't have a record of violent riots.
Democrats respond to this existential crisis by longing for the good old days when white moderates and white nationalists could shake hands in a spirit of non-partisanship and make decisions about the future of blacks. The solutions to combating GOP voter suppression and election rigging are before our eyes - the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Some white moderate Democrats - those of Dr. Martin Luther King justice that the white temperate people are the "great stumbling block on the road to freedom" for blacks - suggest they will not vote to get rid of the Jim Crow filibuster in the Senate, which requires a 60- Vote threshold to pass laws. And we can pretend this is a matter of principle of the moderates and not an example of corruption and cash payments to protect an "honorable" Senate trial to uphold segregation and lynching.

"At some point we will come to a binary choice between protecting our democracy and protecting an obscure Senate process," said Eric Holder in the filibuster. “Ultimately, you're not going to get 10 Republicans to support the For the People Act. That must happen to the Democrats. "
In addition, the White House has reportedly told civil rights leaders and constituencies that it is possible to "organize voter suppression" - suggesting that Biden and the Democrats are unwilling to do the heavy lifting of getting their people into line and the vote to pass rights legislation. Instead, Biden believes blacks can protest and organize their way out of this mess and save the Democrats.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez MP has joined a growing number of critics who believe that Democrats need to do more. “Communities cannot 'outorganize' voter suppression if those who organize them to vote do not protect the vote. Now is the time to fight like hell for democracy. We may not get another chance, ”tweeted AOC.
Communities cannot “unorganize” voter suppression if those who organize them to vote do not protect the vote.
& Even if they fail to organize, the ground is being prepared to overturn the results.

Meanwhile, black people - even members of Congress - are orchestrating acts of civil disobedience and are arrested for the right to vote. And they should. To be black in America means to be in a 400 year state of protest; protest to save our lives and be treated like human beings. But are we expected to save Democrats and the entire nation from the Republican Party's White Citizens ’Council agenda if White Democrats don't even lift a finger to help?
President Biden has to channel Lyndon B. Johnson, a good old south boy who still passed the civil rights law and the suffrage law. Whatever happened between LBJ and the Senators he took to the woodshed in the 1960s, it worked. Biden has to learn from it.
Today blacks are being asked to protest to regain the rights we won over 50 years ago. Democrats respect blacks when they expect us to save America and injure ourselves like work martyrs for Team USA, but they are in power and refuse to use the power we have given them.
