While we eagerly await the release of Cobra Kai's fourth season on Netflix (fingers crossed for later this year!), We're busy streaming our favorite episodes, re-watching the classic films that inspired them, and Search the Internet for manufacturing clues. Now that Netflix has released a teaser trailer for season four, we have a new obsession to pass the time: We meet the show's newest character, villainous Terry Silver.
"Since the beginning of the series, we've carefully orchestrated the right moment to release Cobra Kai Dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe," executive producers / writers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg said in a statement to Deadline on Jan. May. "That moment is now. We can't wait for the whole world to see Thomas Ian Griffith's majestic return to the franchise."
So who exactly is Terry Silver? Here's what you should know.
Who plays Terry Silver in the Karate Kid's Universe?
Thomas Ian Griffith will play Terry Silver in Cobra Kai, a role he knows better than anyone - after all, he played the original role in The Karate Kid Part III. On May 27, Griffith (@tigianpage) tweeted "Time to step out of the shadows ... # CobraKaiSeason4" along with the upcoming season's trailer. Griffith is an actor, producer, writer, and martial artist who has appeared in several television films and series throughout his career. He's written credits for NBC's Grimm and an episode of Netflix's Dolly Parton's Heartstrings, but playing Silver is one of his favorite roles. It seems Griffith is very excited to be re-entering the dojo, if you can judge from his recent tweets. (Can you blame him? We're thrilled too!)
What's his role on the show?
ICYMI, Terry Silver is a wealthy businessman who co-founded Cobra Kai. He is also a former war comrade and best friend of John Kreese (Martin Kove).
When was the last time we saw him?
The events at Cobra Kai take place over 30 years after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, in which Silver and Kreese were defeated. However, silver was mentioned in passing in Cobra Kai. The season three finale features flashbacks of Kreese who saved Silver's life when she was held as a prisoner in the war and then thinks while looking at an old photo in the present.
How could he return?
In the teaser, there's a shadow of Silver's signature ponytail as a voice says, "If a man can't stand, he can't fight. If a man can't breathe, he can't fight. If a man he can't see he can't fight. Extreme situations require extreme measures. " If you remember, by the end of season three, Daniel and Johnny decide to team up to beat Kreese's Cobra Kai at an upcoming tournament. It would make sense for Kreese to call his ex-boyfriend (who still owes him a favor) to defeat Daniel once and for all in the tournament. With his raw strength and thought of revenge, things are sure to get intense pretty quickly.
