Ina Garten is our collective North Star of 2020, a real giant quarantine queen who drinks Kosmos. Her latest report on Instagram is about how tired she is unloading the dishwasher. Of course, critics approached her in the comments - specifically to put knives and spatulas in the dishwasher. Unsurprisingly, she had the best answer to making people who prefer lazy cleanups really understand.
In her post, Ina shared a photo of the lowest level of her dishwasher. She titled it: "If you're tired of unloading the dishwasher, can you unload mine, please?" It includes a couple of plates, bowls, cutlery, spatulas, and knives. Some commentators pointed out that the knives and spatulas shouldn't be in there because they will be ruined. Ina replied: "EVERYTHING goes in the dishwasher !! My assistant put the bird cage in the dishwasher (she took the bird out first)."
Ina made it clear in another comment that everything goes in the dishwasher except for cast-iron pans. TBH, I'm with her. I also didn't realize that putting knives and spatulas in the dishwasher was an issue.
Another reviewer wrote that Ina's dishwasher was too empty to run. In response, Ina wrote: "It is well known that I run the dishwasher, then put more dishes with the clean ones and run it again."
Well there you have it. If Ina puts her knife and spatula in the dishwasher, so can you. I wouldn't recommend their messy clean and dirty dish combination, but you do!
