They said that you should invest in a quality sofa as it is the most important piece of furniture in the room.
The experts also said window treatments deserve a breather because they pull a room together.
While we all like to save money when it comes to decorating our homes, there are some pieces that experts say are worth spending a little more on.
Insider asked three interior designers which home accessories deserve an extra portion.
A sofa is a central piece of furniture in the living room, so it is a worthwhile investment

According to Rachel Street, an interior designer who hosted DIY Network's Philly Revival, the sofa is the most important piece of furniture in the living room.
"It's a good place to spend your budget," Street told Insider. "The ideal sofa provides a comfortable place to sit while contributing to the overall design of the room."
For a contemporary space, choose a leather sofa with clean, square shapes. If you prefer an eclectic look, look for a bright color or a fun pattern.
A bar is great when entertaining guests
Whether it's a wet bar or a wine cabinet, a small bar area in the living room comes in handy when you're entertaining guests. And it can really add to the design, according to Street.
Samantha Orley, interior designer at Orley Interiors, shared tips on keeping your bar stocked.
"Everyone should have a well-stocked bar with fine Scotch, whiskey, vodka and tequila, as well as a selection of aperitifs to appeal to all guests' tastes," she told Insider.
She also suggested investing in some crystal glassware.
Investing in original artwork is a great way to add character to your home

Street told Insider that original artwork adds both character and interest to a design.
According to Robbie Maynard, interior designer at Robbie Interiors, you can also instantly upgrade a space with quality artwork.
"This is a good place to invest," Maynard told Insider. "It's very visible and will make a significant statement and set the tone for the space."
Accent chairs can add color and uniqueness to a room
"I love finding and investing in unique accent chairs, often ending up in a custom fabric," Orley told Insider.
Depending on the room layout and style, depending on the street, you can opt for two matching chairs or chairs in different sizes and colors.
Make a statement with a beautiful rug

Rugs are an important statement piece that sets the style and tone of the room, which Maynard says is worth spending a little more on.
If flashy rugs aren't your thing, Street recommends opting for a simple rug that provides a neutral backdrop for other design elements.
A sound system need not compromise design if done right
"One of my favorite living space upgrades is adding a built-in sound system," Street told Insider.
Speakers hidden in the ceiling are great for parties and don't spoil the design of the room.
Window treatments are often overlooked but are worth the investment

From custom drapes to electronically controlled blinds, window treatments really help hold a room together
Street told Insider to choose a fabric and design that complements the other items in the room.
A coffee table can set the tone for the living room and make it a worthwhile item
If you're looking for an eye-catching piece, Orley recommends a coffee table.
"I usually suggest investing in something that gives the space a lot of character, like a split two-tiered travertine table or a more modern marble table," she told Insider.
Lighting fixtures can enhance your entire living room

Adequate lighting is a very important element of any room, so you should not skimp on it.
"When designing a living room, I pay particular attention to all light fixtures, including recessed lighting and decorative table lamps," Maynard told Insider.
Spending money on quality artificial plants is ideal for frequent travelers
For frequent flyers or those who just don't have time to bother with real plants, investing in quality artificial plants can be worthwhile.
"When you spend the money on good, quality artificial plants, you have no way of knowing they're fake and they never need watering," Maynard told Insider.
Beautiful illustrated books give an insight into the life of a person
Books add personality and insight into a person's home.
According to Orley, there is nothing more meaningful than a selection of illustrated books from various trips around the world.
Throw pillows are an easy way to transform your space

"I like having a few pillow sets for my living room because it allows me to swap them out and give the room a different look and feel depending on the season or mood," Street told Insider.
For the winter, you can opt for fluffier pillows and a cozy blanket, and for the summer, lighter and brighter fabrics are a good choice.
Candles and incense create a warm and welcoming environment
Candles and incense sticks are worth spending a little more as they really help create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
"I encourage customers to find a few scents that they love and that will become their signature," Orley said. "I often travel with incense sticks to bring a bit of home and comfort wherever I go."
