(SOUNDBITE) (English) PRAVEEN PENMETSA, CEO AND CO-FOUNDER OF MONARCH TRACTOR, SAYS:
“Monarch Tractor is the bridge between sustainability and very profitable agribusiness, and farmers shouldn't be able to choose between either. We believe it is possible to have both, and our tractor allows farmers to have the best of both worlds. "
The Monarch Tractor is cleaner than existing machines.
It is able to work 10 hours with a charge of only 4 to 5 hours, which significantly reduces emissions on farms.
It's smart too.
With eight integrated cameras and sensors to monitor a 360-degree view of the surroundings, the tractor can collect up to 240 GB of data per day.
This data is stored in the tractor's cloud system and artificial intelligence does the rest, according to Praveen Penmetsa, CEO and co-founder.
"Our A.I. The platform records all this data and not only offers the farmer insights, but also controls the tractor platform and the operation of the tractor. For example, if the tractor goes down a row, we can remove the driver from this spraying process. And while we're spraying, our A.I. can see what the plant is doing, what the condition of the plant is, but also what the weather conditions are, and on this basis make real-time adjustments on the spray side to reduce the number of chemicals used and also to maximize the yield for the farmer. "
Monarch Tractor has a starting price of $ 50,000.
The company is currently focused on vineyards, fruit and nut plantations, and even dairy and solar farms, but not larger agricultural products like corn, soy and cotton.
But is the technology threatening farmers' jobs?
The developers say their autonomous A.I. Machines allow existing farm workers to focus on other tasks - for example, improving the quality of products instead of operating machines.
Monarch Tractor is one of the newest companies trying to make farming greener and more profitable.
Japanese company Kubota and US heavyweight equipment company John Deere recently announced autonomous and sustainable tractors - but both are still just concepts.

PRAVEEN PENMETSA: Monarch Tractor is the bridge between sustainability and a very profitable agricultural economy. And farmers shouldn't be able to choose between the two. We believe it is possible to have both, and our tractor allows farmers to have the best of both worlds.
- The monarch tractor is cleaner than existing machines. It is able to work 10 hours with a charge of only 4 to 5 hours, which significantly reduces emissions on farms.
It's smart too. With eight integrated cameras and sensors for monitoring a 360-degree view of the surroundings, the tractor can collect up to 240 gigabytes of data daily. This data is stored in the tractor's cloud system and artificial intelligence does the rest, according to CEO and co-founder Praveen Penmetsa.
PRAVEEN PENMETSA: Our AI platform records all of this data and then not only provides insights to the farmer, but also controls the tractor platform and the operation that the tractor performs. For example, if the tractor goes down a row, we can remove the driver from this spraying process. And while we are spraying, our AI can see what the plant is doing, what the condition of the plant is, but also what the weather conditions are, and based on that, make real-time adjustments on the spray side to reduce the number of chemicals used and also the Maximize yield for the farmer.
