J.C. Penney liquidation sales at 137 closing stores start Wednesday with discounts up to 40% off
The exit from business at 137 closing J.C. Penney stores start on Wednesday, the department store chain said.
The discounts range from 25 to 40% on the original prices in the entire store. All sales will be final as of June 25, according to a press release.
"All goods are offered for sale, including lower discounts of 40% on all fine jewelry and window treatments," the press release said. "New seasonal items like swimwear and sunglasses also get a 25% to 30% discount."

The retailer, who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on May 15, also updated his list of stores that will close permanently in its first wave of closings. (See the full list of stores that close below and the stores that have been removed from the list.)

J.C. Penney announced on June 4 that 154 stores would close in its first wave of closings, but now 137 stores are on the list. The removed places can still be closed.
"A handful of previously announced store closure locations will remain on hold pending further review," said J.C. Penney in a blog post.

The retailer is expected to close 242 stores permanently or around 29% of its 846 locations. 192 stores are expected to close in the current fiscal year, which ends in February, and 50 stores in the next fiscal year. After the closings, the company will have around 604 remaining locations.
The Texas-based chain is the largest retailer who filed for bankruptcy protection during the coronavirus pandemic.
Gordon Brothers, Hilco Merchant Resources, the Great American Group and the Tiger Group will manage the sale according to the press release.
The liquidation sales are expected to take 10 to 16 weeks.
J.C. Penney opening times
The shops are currently open from 12 a.m. to 7 p.m. at reduced times. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, stores set an hour from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for vulnerable buyers, including senior citizens, expectant mothers, and people with health concerns.
