J.K. Simmons wants to have a super-powered game of catch in the first teaser for Amazon's Invincible
Given the tremendously successful success of The Walking Dead, it is surprising that it took Robert Kirkman's other great comic book series, the teen superhero drama Invincible, so long to receive TV adaptation treatment. But that treatment has now actually arrived, and today Amazon is showing the first teaser trailer for the new animated series as part of its New York Comic-Con panel.
Speaking of The Walking Dead, this is Steven Yeun voicing the not-so-normal teenager Mark Grayson, who discovers he inherited superpowers from his father Nolan (J.K. Simmons), who is functionally the universe equivalent of Superman. With this in its infancy, the trailer reenacts the wish-fulfillment parts of Invincible's formula - including an intercontinental catch game - with Mark realizing he can fly, hit things, and so on. The press release for the teaser promises all of the “fan” favorite characters, soaring action, and all the audiences expected from the Invincible comics, ”is the first indication that this series is going to be as dark and evil as the comics. (Though hopefully a little less tangled; 144 copies of a comic will do that to you.)
