At Hour 11, Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels has found a replacement for country singer Morgan Wallen, who was dropped from this weekend's episode after footage of him without a mask appeared.
Jack White will now appear as the musical guest on Saturday's episode, hosted by comedian Bill Burr, Michaels revealed in an interview with the Today show.
"I know Jack White is coming in and there might be other things," he said in a video clip that aired Friday morning. "Calling someone on a Thursday to be here on a Friday is complicated," added Michaels. "It has to be people who are ready to go."
White previously appeared on the SNL stage as the main musical guest, first in 2012 for an episode starring Lindsay Lohan and then in 2018 for a John Mulaney moderation. He also appeared in several sketches. "He's always good on the show," said Michaels.
Wallen was originally announced for Burr's episode, but videos appeared earlier this week showing the 27-year-old Voice alum partying in large crowds after a maskless soccer game. NBC had to implement strict security protocols in order to return to broadcast live episodes of Saturday Night Live. Wallen spoke in a video shared on his Instagram account on Wednesday that Michaels called him to say he was removed from this weekend's lineup.
"My actions over the past weekend have been pretty short-sighted and obviously influenced my long-term goals and dreams," said Wallen in part. "I respect the show's decision because I know I put it at risk. I take responsibility for it. I want to apologize to the SNL, my fans and my team for giving me these opportunities. I have she disappoints. "
"He's probably not the first country singer ... the first rock and roll person to party after a big soccer game or concert," Michaels said in a Today interview. "We just live in a different time and everything is checked."
