Jay Leno is back to make the audience laugh!
The comedian returned to the stage Sunday night at the Comedy Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California. The 72-year-old was back on his regular Sunday night set just six days after being discharged from the Grossman Burn Center for second- and third-degree burns caused by a gasoline fire that happened in his home garage while he was working on a steam truck .
He seemed in good spirits as Access Hollywood spoke to him as he arrived with his wife at his side ahead of his performance. He chuckled and said he felt great and was going to crack a BBQ joke about his medical emergency.
Wearing a dark suit with his traditional signature Demin shirt underneath, Jay's scars on his face were barely visible and some redness was noticeable on one side of his cheek.
The former "Tonight Show" host only addressed the incident for the first few minutes before continuing with his set.
Jay has performed at the club nearly every week since 1992, when he became the host of "The Tonight Show," but this is one of the few times he's received a standing ovation, a staffer at the Access Hollywood venue said.
Arsenio Hall and his longtime friend Jimmy Brogan opened for Leno. Arsenio said during his set that the legendary comedian called him after he was discharged from the hospital and asked him to be part of the show.
On Wednesday, Jay was seen delivering goodie bags and thank you cards to medics at the Grossman Burn Center on Wednesday in photos provided to the Daily Mail. In the pictures, he was seen wearing a blue denim buttoned shirt and carrying a box of Milk Bar biscuits for hospital staff.
On November 12, Jay was working on his car when a gasoline fire broke out, resulting in burns to his face, hands and wrists.
His rep told Access Hollywood at the time how grateful he was to the staff at the Grossman Burn Center and how excited he was to go home.
"He wants everyone to know how grateful he is for the care he has received and is very grateful for all the well wishes," his rep told Access. "He's looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishing everyone a happy holiday."
