Jennette McCurdy recalls being yelled at repeatedly while filming her first kiss with 'iCarly' costar Nathan Kress

Jennette McCurdy recalled the nerve-wracking experience of filming her very first kissing scene.
Sam and Freddie's kiss in the second season of "iCarly" was McCurdy's first kiss in real life and on screen.
She said that during filming, a man named The Creator yelled at her to move her head more.
Former Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy recalled her negative experience filming her very first kissing scene while starring on hit sitcom iCarly.
McCurdy wrote extensively about her time as Sam Puckett in "iCarly" and the spin-off series "Sam & Cat," both created by TV producer Dan Schneider, in her new memoir, "I'm Glad My Mom Died." , was published on Tuesday.

iCarly ran for six seasons between 2007 and 2012, starring Miranda Cosgrove as Carly Shay and Nathan Kress as Freddie Benson. Together, Sam, Carly and Freddie started a successful web series while they were at school.

Although McCurdy's character often bullied and teased Freddie, the two had a brief romantic relationship on the show.
In the Season 2 episode titled "iKiss," Sam and Freddie kissed for the first time. The moment came after both revealed they had never kissed anyone before and decided to put it over with.
In her memoir, McCurdy said the scene marked their first kiss, both on screen and in real life. The actress said her nerves were heightened by a man referred to only as "The Creator" yelling at her during filming.
"Our lips touch," McCurdy recalled. "He moves his mouth a little, but I can't move mine. I'm frozen His eyes are closed. Not mine. Mine are wide open and staring at him. It's so weird staring at a person while your faces are touching. I do not like it. I can smell his hair gel.”
She continued, "'Move your head around a little more, Jennette!' The creator yells offscreen."
McCurdy said she "honestly" tried to do what was asked of her, but her body was "stiff" and "unafraid".
"My thoughts are, who cares, this is your first kiss, this is your first kiss on camera. Get it over with Do as you're told," she said. "My body says no, I don't want this. I don't want my first kiss to be like this. I want my first kiss to be a real first kiss, not a kiss for a TV show."

The star said she suppressed her romantic side and was "ashamed of it" because her mother, Debra McCurdy, didn't encourage her. Due to her lack of experience, McCurdy found filming nerve-wracking.
"You're just trying to fit in, and when you're Nathan, my co-star, it seems like you can," she wrote. "But if you're me, you can't. When you're me you just think about every single little thing that happens and your mind races and you can't wait for it to be over."
McCurdy said the creator "Cut!" and thereafter approached her to redouble his note.
"The Creator looks me straight in the eye but doesn't say anything for four or five seconds," she said. "I almost start laughing because I think maybe he's messing with me for fun like he sometimes does, but then I realize there's a deep anger inside him. This is no time for laughter. Finally he speaks.”
"'Jennette. More. Head. Move,'" she recalled, adding that he yelled at the crew to get the cameras going.

McCurdy said that in the scene leading up to the kiss, she had an "out of body experience" where her heart was pounding and her hands felt numb.
"We lean in," she wrote. "Our lips touch. Lips feel uncomfortable. They are like small, rough heaps of meat. It's disgusting to be a person."
McCurdy continued: "Shoot, I'm supposed to move my head. I start moving it. Back and forth. Back and forth . Nathan when his character, Freddie, finally breaks free.”
McCurdy said the creator shouted "Cut!" and she could "know by his tone" that he was dissatisfied with the footage.
The star said The Creator asked the assistant director if they had time for another take.
When told they had to continue after seven takes, McCurdy recalled being close.
"'Good,' he says angrily," McCurdy wrote in her memoir. "'That wasn't ideal, but FEIN, we'll keep going. I'll be smart!'"
