“Everyone is walking around in the fog, shaken by the whole thing,” 96-year-old Gilbert told people how the quiz show staff dealt with the loss. "Part of me left here when Alex really left."
"'Danger!' has always been my life, "he added. "I got married [to Ms. Sharee] as soon as the show aired, so our life together and the life of the show are rolled into one."
Gilbert recalled meeting Trebek before they worked together, noting "he wasn't your usual big smiley face presenter" and someone who "was quiet and listened to everyone and everything".

"Alex was always the same person," he explained. "He was very thoughtful, he read a tremendous amount and traveled a lot. He always did crossword puzzles to keep his mind active."
Gilbert also remembered how Trebek used the "Danger!" Audience, answered their questions during commercial breaks - no matter how serious or silly they were.

"A girl asked him: 'Boxers or briefs?' Alex took a punch and said, 'Strap!' "He laughed." I told him a long time ago, 'If this show goes away, you might be a stand-up comedian. "He always loved joking. "
Whoever calls the torch of Trebek's legacy "Danger!" Host Gilbert has only one piece of advice.
"'Danger!' is a very special game, "he said. "If the person lets the show be the show, it will be fine."
