Jimmy Kimmel Announces He's Taking the Rest of the Summer Off from Hosting ABC Late-Night Show

Jimmy Kimmel takes a break from his nightly hosting chores to enjoy the summer with his family.
The 52-year-old Kimmel announced the news in a clip by Matt Damon, who jokingly claimed that he had Live! Before the episode of Jimmy Kimmel. Lived in a Kimmel guest room on Thursday evening, crashed hilariously.
"Tonight is my last new show for summer," he said. "I take the summer off to spend more time with my family."
"I've been doing this job for almost 18 years, I've done 3,130 shows," said Kimmel. "And there is nothing wrong - my family is healthy, I am healthy - I only need a few months off."
The comedian said that during his vacation "a cavalry of very friendly and capable people will step in for him". "I think you will be very happy with them," he said to the audience.
The episodes moderated by guests begin after the late night show took a two-week break on July 6, Kimmel added.

Earlier this week, ABC announced that Kimmel would host the Emmy Awards for the third time in September.
"I don't know where we're going to do it or how we're going to do it or why we're doing it, but we're doing it and I'm hosting it," said Kimmel, who will also act as an executive producer solo.
"We know that Jimmy Kimmel will deliver a uniquely entertaining, fun, and moving Primetime Emmys show," said ABC Entertainment's President Karey Burke in a statement on Tuesday.

While the fate of this year's Emmy Awards has been previously questioned given the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, the show is set to continue on September 20. The TV Academy will announce the nominations on July 28th.
Kimmel shares 5-year-old daughter Jane and 3-year-old son Billy with his wife Molly McNearney. He is also the father of daughter Katie (29) and son Kevin (26), who he shares with his ex-wife Gina Kimmel.
