Investigators said that more than half of the 410 luxury cars confiscated were actually stolen.
Seized at the Thai border, law enforcement agencies seized a large collection of luxury cars, and now they are learning that the majority of those cars have been stolen. Former police station chief Pol Colonel Thitisan Uthanapol, aka Joe Ferrari, is in grave trouble after National Police chief Pol General Suchart Theerasawat reported that he discovered stolen overseas cars among the seized cars.
"Of the 270, 101 were reported stolen before they were confiscated and 169 were reported after they were confiscated," National Police Deputy Chief Pol General Suchart Theerasawat told the press.
“We also have evidence that other officials were involved in this fraud.
“We believe that Thitisan and his gang confiscated smuggled luxury cars and put them up for auction at customs after collecting 5 percent of the estimated price as a finder's fee.
“We're investigating whether the buyers of these cars are also related to the gang. The investigation team should be able to bring charges by November. "
Most of the cars were smuggled out of Singapore and Malaysia. Joe Ferrari was initially arrested in August for attempting to blackmail drug suspects and suffocating one of them. After the arrest, an investigation was opened to find out how a police chief could lead such a lavish lifestyle and it was from there that corruption was discovered.
