Joe Staley's angry tweet sums up 49ers' ugly first half vs. Dolphins
Staley fires off an angry tweet while the ugly first half of the 49ers originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Sometimes, rarely, a perfect tweet is triggered. Joe Staley only needed five words to sum up the ugly Sunday of the first 49ers against the Miami Dolphins.
Every 49ers fan wondered about the same thing as San Francisco's former star, and probably had a few tougher explanations. The first half went as badly as possible for the 49ers in their matchup in Week 5 when they went into the locker room at 30-7 against the One-Win Dolphins.
Cornerback Brian Allen, recently promoted from the training team, spent the first half getting burned by Dolphins receivers and earning costly fines. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was just as bad.
Garoppolo was supposed to be San Francisco's savior when he returned from an ankle sprain. Instead, he looked nowhere near ready and threw the ball to win. Garoppolo went 7-for-17 for 77 yards in the first half and was intercepted twice.
After half time he was replaced by quarterback C. J. Beathard. Trainer Kyle Shanahan said it was a precautionary measure to protect Garoppolo. The QB was fired three times in the first half.
