John Boehner Says Trump 'Incited That Bloody Insurrection' At The U.S. Capitol
Former Republican House Speaker John Boehner beats up Donald Trump over the January 6 riot in the U.S. Capitol in his upcoming memoir. The former president was directly responsible for the incident in which five people died and more than 140 Capitol police officers were injured.
In an excerpt from the New York Times, Boehner says that Trump "instigated this bloody uprising only for selfish reasons, perpetuated by the crap he'd shoveled since losing a fair election last November."
The Ohio Republican, who left the house in 2015 after heightened fighting with the GOP's tea party wing, also suggests that Trump was a real terrorist.
"The legislative terrorism that I saw as a speaker had now promoted actual terrorism," Boehner writes in the book, On the House: A Washington Memoir, due later this month.
"I admit I was not prepared for what came after the elections - Trump refused to accept the results and fueled the flames of conspiracy that were in the seat of our democracy, the building I once presided in Violence transformed, "he added.
Elsewhere in the colorful book, Boehner rips Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) as "a ruthless asshole who thinks he's smarter than anyone," and Fox News host Sean Hannity as "nut".
After leaving office, Boehner was mostly in Washington and accepted a position as a lobbyist for a cannabis group. He has been calm in the last few months of Trump's presidency and only spoke out after the Capitol uprising - and without criticizing Trump by name.
I once said Lincoln and Reagan's party is taking a nap. Napping has become a nightmare for our nation. The GOP needs to awaken. The invasion of our Capitol by a mob instigated by the lies of some people in power is a disgrace to all who have sacrificed to build our republic.
