Johnny Depp Performs at D.C. Concert with His Amber Heard Trial Lawyers in Audience

Johnny Depp performed alongside guitarist Jeff Beck at a concert in Washington, D.C. on, just over four months after a verdict was reached against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in his Virginia libel trial.
Depp and Beck, who released an album together over the summer, kicked off their US tour (which runs through November and includes stops in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville and more) Tuesday night at The Anthem. His attorneys from the Fairfax, Virginia trial, Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew, attended the show and posed for photos with VIP passes backstage.
On June 1, the jury mostly sided with Depp, 59, awarding him more than $10 million in damages. They found that Heard, 36, defamed him in her 2018 op-ed about domestic violence, although she didn't mention him by name in the article. In addition, Heard won one of her counterclaims for defamation and was awarded $2 million in damages. Both are appealing the verdicts.

Some of the adoring Depp fans who attended the court hearings earlier this year turned up for Tuesday's rock performance. Jhoane Garcia, who went to court frequently, says the concert felt like a reunion of Depp fans who met at the courthouse.

“It was great to come here. It felt like a reunion. I saw so many people from the process. I felt like it was just family with them again. We were together for six weeks. We've been through a lot and we've seen Johnny go through a lot too," she tells PEOPLE. "And I was so glad to see Camille and Ben and we all felt very close for some reason, a special connection to each other."

Beck played the first 45 minutes of the show after the opening act, Desure, who told the audience that he first met Depp at a tattoo parlor. Desure said Depp eventually heard his music and asked him to open for her. He thanked the actor and Beck for putting him on the tour. The crowd went wild as Depp came out for the second half of the set. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor bowed to the audience and gestured in Beck's direction. He then walked up to Beck, bowed in his direction and started playing his guitar.

“I can play with these guys; kinda weird but amazing," Depp said after playing his first few songs with Beck. "I want to say thank you to a lot of people that are in this room." Depp didn't say much more between songs he sang lead vocals on, but that didn't stop some of his female fans from wearing underwear during the final song and throwing bras on stage.
PEOPLE confirmed last month that Depp is dating lawyer Joelle Rich, who previously represented him during his UK defamation case in 2020.
In August, MTV introduced Depp during its broadcast of the 2022 Video Music Awards, with the actor making a cameo appearance in a pre-taped segment, with his face digitally superimposed on the helmet of the show's Moon Person. Heard's sister Whitney Henriquez spoke about the performance, slamming MTV for its inclusion and calling the organizers "disgusting and clearly desperate."
