Unfortunately there is a new number 11 for Julian Edelman in the New England Patriots.
Training squad kicker Riley Patterson received the number previously worn by the 35-year-old athlete who retired from the NFL in April, according to a tweet from ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Edelman responded to the news Wednesday with a clip of ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.
"I'm a little sad," says Smith in the clip. He pauses briefly before adding, "I'm actually lying. I'm pretty devastated."

Edelman called it a 12-season career in the NFL, all of which he spent with the Patriots. The former receiver won three Super Bowls with New England between 2015 and 2019 and was named Most Valuable Player in a Super Bowl in 2019 as the first Jewish athlete in league history.
Edelman only played six games last season with a knee injury. His contract with the Patriots was terminated in April after he reportedly failed a physical exam.
"Nothing in my career has ever been easy, and no surprise, it won't be easy either," said Edelman in the video announcing his retirement. "Well, I've always said I'll go until the wheels fall off. And they finally fell off."
