Kamala Harris to travel to Singapore and Vietnam for first overseas trip

Vice President Kamala Harris will take her second overseas trip since taking office to Singapore and Vietnam next month, her spokeswoman confirmed on Friday.
Why It Matters: Harris will be the first vice president to ever visit Vietnam and the highest-ranking Biden official to travel to Asia as the government seeks to form an international coalition to curb China's influence.

What they say: On the agenda of both visits are "regional security, the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and our joint efforts to promote a rules-based international order," said spokesman Symone Sander.
"The vice president will also reaffirm and celebrate the strong cultural and personal ties between the United States and these countries," added Sanders.
"President Biden and Vice President Harris have made it a top priority to rebuild our global partnerships and protect our nation, and this upcoming visit will continue that work - and deepen our commitment to Southeast Asia."
The big picture: Harris' first trip abroad was to Guatemala and Mexico, where she was criticized for her rhetoric about the influx of migrants to the southern border.
